Yard Sales Rule!

YARD_SALE_SIGN.jpgChecking out yard sales are so much fun during the weekends. Having one of your own is fun as well. Buying stuff in less than a fraction is even better. Yard Sales or Garage Sales are a good way to find stuff in as little as .50 cents OR to get rid of your own stuff when you feel like your house has accumulated so many things through the years or when you're getting ready to move to another house or State. Parents benifit a lot from Yard Salin'. If you are really patient, you could find baby clothes for .25 cents a piece. This is a good option for new Mommies. Children's clothes are so expensive. Infants grow out of them too fast so why not look for cheap used items from yard sales? That's what I did when I was getting ready for my 2 kids. Mothers are very good in taking care of their kids's clothes, believe me. So don't be afraid to dig into a box when you find a house selling baby clothes.

Not just clothes, household items as well. Just last weekend, I found a $1 phone that I needed for our bedroom. And a banana hook/stand for you guessed it, bananas :). I also love finding antiques and such. Yard sales are the best places to buy vintage items like vases, baseball cards, etc. if you are into collecting those. I once cleaned out one yard sale by grabbing all the Tupperware they were selling. That brand is not cheap. I found sets of containers for less than $10. If I purchased them from let's say a catalog or a Tupperware show, the sets would've been around $100.

If you're going to have your own Yard Sale for the first time, I have some suggestions that you might want to keep in mind:

Be aware of your City's rules when it comes to putting up signs.

Use a light colored poster. It will attract more attention

Write legibly and make the words readable. I can't stand it when I can't read the address. It's a turn off. We'll just ignore the sign and search for more.

Do not price your items like you're selling hot cakes. You want to get rid of them and still make some money but customers get really turned off when an outfit is let's say $5. See, they can buy a new one for that price from Wal-Mart or Target, so why pay a used one with the same price. Logic there.

Unless you are selling tools, electronics and other big items, try to price your items starting with .25 cents to $3.

If you are getting rid of your Paperbacks, .25 cents is a good start. Toys can start from .50 and higher, depending on what and how big they are.

Be flexible and negotiate.

Have plastic bags and change ready :) .

Don't forget to take down your signs when you're done.

So what treasures have you found from your Yard Sale trips? How much have you made from having one? Please sahre with us other tips and tricks about the topic. We'd appreciate it.
