I had my 3 nephews last night for a sleepover with my son yesterday and let me tell you what an adventure that was. Well technically only 2 were staying for sleepover but the other one stayed until after dinner time so my house was full of energy. 4 boys under 10 yrs old. Anyway, the day before yesterday my husband asked what I was going to feed them for dinner. I could've just planned a burger or hot dogs night for all of us but that would've been a lot of work and expensive. Grilling also requires some side dishes that I really didn't feel like making. Then I remembered the box of tuna helper that I bought because of a $1 coupon the last time I went grocery shopping. Of course I also have cans of tuna fish always on hand in the pantry. To add a "vegetable" part, I mixed in a can of drained peas into the tuna helper mixture.

Thank goodness we still had half a loaf of the cheese bread from the other night too. So I sliced 4 of that and slithered butter on top. It helps having paper plates always on hand as well. Doing dishes while catering to 4 boys and 1 yr old little girl is not fun so paper plates are very helpful.

From a box of tuna helper with1 can of tuna fish,a can of peas, and bread with butter, the kids were happy. And I was sane and happy the whole night as well since I didn't have to work too much to feed their hungry stomach, not to mention the empty sink except for the utensils. Well and the pan I used for cooking, but that's better than slaving away in the kitchen for a meal and then doing the dishes afterwards. The whole meal didn't cost me that much either. Instead of spending money by taking them all out to a drive-thru which is probably a convenient thing to do, they all sat down in my dining table, enjoying a semi-homemade meal that did not give me a headache at all :) .
So unless you planned a pizza sleepover, how about having boxes of affordable tuna helper or hamburger helpers on hand?
