Top 10 Kitchen Party Tips

Don't you love the GE Cafe Kitchen line "designed for Canadian Eatertainers" (image left)? I'm looking at renovating the kitchen and love these appliances which really would make a splash in any home.

This year, so many of my friends are becoming 'Canadian Eatertainers', forgetting the formal Christmas dinner parties and opting for casual, fun kitchen parties. GE Cafe offers these:

Top 10 Kitchen Party Tips from Chef David Adjey:

1. "Parties are a lot about aromas - make sure their first impression of entering the kitchen, is what you're cooking. Reduce perfumes, colognes and even fragrant floral arrangements."

2. "The best way to ensure a great kitchen party is to give everyone a job. Stir, chop, and grill."

3. "When you choose your theme for your kitchen party, don't forget about the music. If you're doing Latino-style food make sure you have some salsa music."

4. "Everyone wants to dress well for a party but no one wants to risk a stain. Give your guests their own personalized apron. An apron makes a great take-away."

5. "Invent your own cocktail. Create the bar not only with ice and premium spirits, but also with fresh exotic juices, zests, nectars, and berries. Even a 'mocktail' is delicious and exciting to create."

6. "Create a theme as simple as Canadian Cuisine or Italian Pasta Night."

7. "Select wines based on your theme. It's a great way to try new wines from different parts of the world. And remember to chill white wine in the fridge so your wine is cold before your dinner is hot!"

8. "Kitchen parties are not the time for experimenting with recipes. Experiment on family, not friends. Make sure it's something you've cooked before."

9. "Create a competition like the 'World's Best Steak'. Everyone brings his or her own steak for blind tasting."

10. "If you send out the menu for your kitchen party, ask everyone to bring their favourite bottle of wine for a blind tasting during dinner."
