Technology Cleanse: Well, sort of…

Well, I’m on location in the mountains with my two girls. It took a good day to adapt to not having the internet at my beck and call. I kept getting the urge to check my email. It was like a bad twitch. I suppose I’m experiencing a bit of a cleanse by taking a break from the electronic luxuries of city living. I didn’t even bring my mp3 player.

We have a cell phone for emergencies, but I haven’t turned it on. Not to be unsocial, but I forgot my charger! (Aren’t I just prepared for anything???)

We certainly aren’t suffering – we have satellite radio and 3 channels on the television. t. The 3 fuzzy channels available don’t offer much for viewing options…

Technology aside, we’re having a great time!

We’ve been hiking every day with our dog. Our dog gets more attention than us. Anyone we’ve run into starts our conversations with, ‘So, what’s your dog’s name?’. I answer politely, “Uh, his name’s Amstel.” (He’s named after the beer). At the same time I’m thinking – why don’t dog owners ask what the dog owners name is? Have we all become so socially challenged that we are more comfortable socializing through our dogs?

So, last night we were walking by the house of a lady we had crossed paths with the night before. The lady was puttering around in her yard and looked up and saw us. The lady yells out, “Hi, Amstel!” Of course, not exactly sure how to respond I yell back, “Hi!"

Was I right? Or should I have barked back a reply?

Figuring it out as I go,

- Lesli
