Superwoman Oprah Winfrey Apologized

oprah-winfrey.jpgA couple of weeks ago, allegations of sexual abuse from one of the dorm parents in Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy For Girls school in South Africa came out. The dorm parent was accused of abusing a girl, sexually, verbally and physically hurt others. Oprah immediately took action by flying up there and held an emergency meeting with the parents. Oprah apologized profusely by saying :

"I've disappointed you. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry,"

One Father expressed his sentiments by saying:

We don't blame you, You have more passion for the school and its existence than anyone else in this country, including us parents.

This is really sad you know. Oprah Winfrey tried to do something good, beyond any of our scopes for these girls in South Africa but is now tainted with the unimaginable action of a trusted individual. I just don't understand how people could be so evil. Let's hope the girls can find strength from Oprah and continue working for their betterment. And I wish the Leadership Academy For Girls to prosper and be able to help more girls out there who needs it.

Do you really think it's tainted by this one event? I haven't read anything other than your post on this, so I may be speaking in ignorance, but with all the good she is/will continue to do, I wouldn't think that her goodwill and efforts will be overlooked because of something that she did not cause... And if the other parents responded like the one father you quoted, it's obvious they don't blame her. (Hurray for them for that. And hurray for Oprah for responding so quickly and personally!)

Brianne, one thing I've heard a lot is Oprah's distance from the school. Meaning she's in the US while the school is all the way in South Africa. Not as a big of an impact as it might have been put out there but it should'nt be brought up in the first place. Unfortunately, it has been.
