She's a country-music star. And she's the wife of a country-music star (Garth Brooks). She's a busy stepmom of three. And now she's a cookbook author. Sound like a stretch? Not to her. Long known for her cooking among family and friends, the book is merely an extension of Yearwood's passion for feeding her loved ones. The book itself is a family affair, co-written by her mother and sister and with a forward by Garth, who claims her secret is that she cooks with love.

“My life in Oklahoma with Garth and the girls is wonderful because it’s so normal. We do everything together. We love to cook, and that’s why it made sense to write a cookbook. Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen is filled with real family recipes. And, the thing is, they’re pretty simple.”

You won't find finicky gourmet techniques in Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen. Instead, you'll find tips for the beginner, like how to make confectioner's sugar from granulated, and plenty of down-home, no-fuss, supermarket-friendly ideas with plenty of fun shortcuts.

Some of her secrets:

Hearty food does not necessarily equal romance. Fettuccine Alfredo may just put your man to sleep (a lesson learned the first time she cooked for Garth).

The little things count: “Each morning Garth does the sweetest thing: He makes my coffee. I say, ‘I’ll make it today, honey.’ And he says, ‘No, it’s my honor.’ It’s a little thing, but it’s a big thing because he doesn’t even drink coffee!”

Have a veggie night. Sauté and roast them. And make sure everyone gets plenty of their favorites.
