Stop the bullying now

freepixelsstopexclaim.jpg

Friends of mine have a son who has been bullied. It's a disturbing problem in our schools. Statistics show that in the average Canadian elementary school classroom, 3 out of 20 kids spend their day afraid.

If you or family or friends are dealing with bullying at school, the Canadian website HowWasYourDay.ca is an excellent resource. The website provides strategies for parents, tips for kids and resources for educators.

How can you tell if a child is being bullied? The website says "children who are bullied may be affected in the following ways:

Anxiety, fear, irritability and/or depression,

Lowered self esteem, lack of confidence, withdrawal,

Poor concentration, lowered school achievement, avoidance of school
Sleeping problems, bedwetting, nightmares

Physical symptoms such as stomachaches,
headaches or other physical symptoms."
