Sperm Donor To Lesbian Couple Ordered To Pay Child Support

Sometimes I think I've heard everything but then I turn on the news and I'm proven otherwise.

A sperm donor who helped a lesbian couple in Pennsylvania concieve two kids, 8 yr old boy and 7 yr old girl, was ordered to pay child support to the birth mother. The couple has actually broken up. Jodilynn, the birth mother, along with the kids moved out of their house in February of 2006. Jennifer, the other half was ordered to pay $1000 child support a month. Now the court has ordered, Carl Frampton Jr., the sperm donor, to pay instead.

BUT, get this, another twist to this already questionable and bizzare court ruling is that the sperm donor died last March from a stroke. So how is this support going to go through? Well if you can understand this excerpt, let me know:

Jennifer Shultz-Jacob's lawyer, Heather Z. Reynosa, wants Frampton's support obligation to be made retroactive to when Jacob first filed for support. Frampton's Social Security survivor benefits may also help reduce Shultz-Jacob's monthly obligation.

Their defense pretty much is that Carl actually provided financial support to the kids while he was alive and they called him Papa. Seriously. I am so confused to comprehend this story right now I'll just direct you to the news link to understand for your self.

Is it just me or is this whole thing crazy?

I understand it about as much as you do, but what I've concluded:

Any man wishing to donate sperm to any woman should make sure some kind of contract is written up and signed if he doesn't want to be slammed with child support years later - even in death.

Although I'm a lesbian, I think that court decision is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Let's bring it back to the simplest of attributes to this case: The deceased was deemed SPERM DONOR. Not 'baby-daddy.' I think the other partner should be solely responsible for the financial well being of these children. The two women made their bed. No one else should have to lie in it with them, due to biological technicalities.

It sends a horrible message to society about my LGBT coupled community. It's just stupid.
