Sometimes I Miss My Family

Especially when I was able to spend two nights out of the house without a worry that my youngest son was being cared for properly.

As I mentioned, he just turned one year old and in that entire year no one has put him to bed except his mommy. The main reason was because of nursing but the other was not having anyone live close enough that I trust to do it.

My mom has been visiting for the past week and both my sons were glued to her side for the entire time. My husband and I went out for dinner and a nice walk one night (and both my boys were sleeping soundly when I got home). The very next night I went on a date with my oldest son and my mom went shopping - daddy took the night shift and I again came home to a sleeping babe.

Not having our extended family around us as a support network is hard and when we do have the extra help for a period of time it almost (ALMOST) makes us want to move back to Ontario. But we have made our home here and will not be moving back. Here are some of the ways we keep our children close to their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins living across the country:

- A Family Blog - we have a team blog that I mostly update to keep everyone in the loop.
- Weekly phone calls - my oldest son is a chatterbox and loves to leave messages on voicemail.
- Pictures - We go through old photo albums and the pictures hanging on the walls and talk about who they are
- Snail Mail - A lot of arts and crafts and other "treasures" have been sent from our house to family.
