“Mom always said don’t play ball in the house.”
Now, if you don’t remember that as a classic quote from The Brady Bunch, you’re either (a.) younger than I am (and that’s pretty easy to be these days), (b.) older than I am, which means you forget more or (c.) one of those people who never watched mindless sit-coms when growing up.
I think a lot of us grew up with classic “mom always said” lines, which usually contained the best, most practical advice we needed. “Mom always said do your homework before you play,” “Mom always said think before you speak,” and “Mom always said to wear clean underwear.” Who can argue with wisdom like that?

I was trying to figure out what my five children would tell you mom always said. I came up with this…..and I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
1. Mom always said, “Get over it!” Seriously, carrying grudges is just too much work, and a chip on your shoulder will just lead to bad posture. We all disagree every now and then, but the quicker you settle your disagreements and put them behind you, the quicker you can get on with your life – and the happier you’ll be.
2.Mom always said, “Make your bed first.” Nothing deep here. I’ve just found that it doesn’t matter how messy the room is – if the bed’s made, it looks like there’s some semblance of order. (The same’s true with an empty sink.)
3.Mom always said, “Life’s not fair.” This is a tough one. We all expect fair treatment, but the reality is some of us are Rockefellers and others are, well, SimplyMom. Life is anything but fair, so go back to lesson one and get over it. Your life will be a lot less stressful once you accept this.
4.Mom always said, “Don’t be afraid to be a nerd.” So many kids waste their youth pursuing popularity. But by your 10th reunion, you’ll forget the football plays and the homecoming tiara will tarnish and what’s left? Feed your inner geekiness, and don’t worry about what others think. Follow your dreams.
5.Mom always said, “I love you.” Well, at least I hope that’s what they remember. But I know I can never say it enough.
