Today was one of those days.
I was asked to work on a big rush assignment, and I had cleared the whole day to work on that. But the information that I needed never came in. I waited all day, pushing that "Refresh" button and hoping what I needed would arrive in my mailbox. Which it did - at 6:30 tonight (with a note that said we'll work on this tomorrow).
How much of life is like that? How often do we plan and anticipate, clear and wait, only to be left frustrated. I feel like I wasted the entire day, when just a little note - "We'll be in touch Thursday" - would have freed me up to clean the house, swim in my pool, play with kids. Would have freed me up to live.
Believe me, I have never been accused of being a workaholic. Still, the number of hours I've sat here at this computer - and the number of times I pushed "refresh" - indicate I'm giving work a status in my life that it doesn't deserve. Now the sun is going down, my little girl is watching cartoons, and we haven't really bonded at all today.
Well, that's my little vent for today. Apparently I need to reevaluate the way I spend my time, and start respecting it (even if no one else seems to). Right now, though, there's a little girl upstairs who might need a hug.
I know her mom could use one.
