Overweight? The problem may be your choice of hobbies. According to a Harris Interactive Survey, only 29% of women’s hobbies involve exercise. So what can you do? Take advantage of the cool weather and try your hand at one of these:

• Gardening – Beautify your neighborhood – and yourself – by cultivating a flower garden. Regular gardening chores burn approximately 250 calories an hour. Extra benefits? All that planting and hoeing is therapeutic – and a vegetable garden can provide just-picked-fresh produce for your salads.
• Bicycling – Tired of going nowhere? Then forget the stationery bike and take to the streets with a friend or your kids. Leisurely biking (10 miles an hour or slower) can burn about 236 calories an hour – and tone your legs as well!
• Fishing – Want to catch your dinner while you whittle away pounds? Then get hooked on fishing! Fishing from a boat while sitting will burn 148 calories an hour for the average 130 pound person. Stand up, and that number increases to 207.

And if humidity forces you indoors, join the Dance Dance Revolution. Think video games are for couch potatoes? Then you haven’t tried Dance Dance Revolution, a rhythm step-dancing game by PlayStation. You complete a series of dance steps following onscreen instructions while information such as “calories burned” is flashed on the screen. You can work up a sweat to 65 different songs, or you can modify the instructions to keep the foot play fresh and challenging.
