SimplyMom: In The News

elizabethe.jpg

It’s been about a week since John Edwards confirmed his extra-marital affair and I have to admit, it still hurts.

I know logically that what a man does in his bedroom – or in his mistress’ bedroom – is between the people involved, their families and their God. And Lord knows, if Elizabeth Edwards is gracious enough to forgive him, then who am I to shake my head?

But it hurts to think of Elizabeth, that noble, brave soul who bragged about her thirtieth wedding anniversary meal at Wendy’s. The woman who believed in her husband and his dream so much that she campaigned despite the pain of cancer and its treatment. The woman who wanted her husband to be president, even if she wasn’t sure she’d make it to be first lady.

Sure, an affair is stupid, and lying about it (especially when you’re under the watchful eye of the National Enquirer) even worse. If you can’t keep your most sacred vow to your spouse, why should we believe you’re going to keep any promises you make to the country?

Still, it hurts to see stupidity win over common sense, and it hurts to see a family suffer so publicly. Elizabeth Edwards has decided to continue with her marriage – see, I told you she was brave, noble and gracious. She’s a shining example for SimplyMoms everywhere – even if her husband falls way short.
