Do most shock jocks continue to gnaw away once their foot is in their mouth? Apparently that’s the case with Michael Savage, who has bit off more than he can chew, but insists on regurgitating it.

Savage, as you may have heard, caused a ruckus late last week by declaring that 99 percent of the cases of autism were the result of poor parenting, and the affected children were just brats who haven’t been told to cut it out.

Yesterday, Savage announced on his broadcast that his remarks were taken out of context, but then said he stood behind the spirit of his words – that autism is overdiagnosed to benefit the “greedy, corrupt medical-pharmaceutical environment.”

Perhaps. But parents of autistic children were outraged and called for Savage’s dismissal. Savage’s program, “The Savage Nation,” is based out of Manhattan and draws a listenership of more than eight million daily – but will those numbers save him from sponsors? According to sources, representatives of Alfac and Home Depot have already said their advertising will not appear on Savage’s broadcast.
