"Beans, beans, good for your heart.
The more you eat, the more you......"

I remember my dear old granny teaching my children that lovely little rhyme years ago. (Some grannies knit, but this is my legacy. And I miss her deeply.)

Anyway, that leads to the question of the day (and I know I've blushed about this on more than one occassion):

Can flatulence be controlled? It’s so embarrassing!

Flatulence – just like the equally embarrassing belching – is usually a sign of indigestion. Food that isn’t properly digested will ferment in the intestines, producing carbon dioxide and hydrogen – the “gas” that you pass.

“Flatulence can be controlled by many things,” says Dr. Dana Simpler. “Make sure you have regular bowel movements because constipation will allow gas to build up. Pay attention to what foods cause gas in you and avoid them. Use Pepto Bismol tablets daily to reduce the amount of gas build-up in the colon.”

Of course, you can always use my kids' method....blame someone else. Or talk about the dog having a problem. Or just sniff suspiciously until the offending odor clears the air.
