Simply Mom: What Moms Like

Find Your Child Without Losing Your Mind

My kids all say I'm overprotective, but when you hear that 2000 children are lost each day, I think I have a right to keep a close eye on them.

Of course, I was a hawk even before I read that 2000 number - which was just today. I saw it on the web site for SpotMeID, a new product developed because, as their site will tell you, "kids get lost."

Now, I gotta tell, that grabbed me. My kids have "gotten lost" all over the place...at the beach, in amusement parks, even in church. Heck, one even got lost in our house....well, actually, he fell asleep under a bed and none of us could find him until his older brother hit his knees to pray for guidance.

Anyway, I think a mom needs all the help - divine and otherwise - that she can get when it comes to keeping tabs on her brood. And that's why I want to let you all know about the SpotMeID bracelet. It looks like a regular kids' wristband on the front, but you can store your contact information - the parent's name and cell phone number - on the inside. Then if a child is lost, he can go up to another mommy (or whoever else you tell your child to find) and the information will be handy for the adult to make the call.

If you have one of the finicky kids who won't wear a wristband, there are SpotMeID lanyards and, for the really hip, temporary tattoos. And for a mere $9.95, you'll be buying yourself some peace of mind. That's what I call a bargain.
