Quiet in the Mountains…

…well, unless there’s an overzealous hawk in the area, fighting with the ravens…Birds aside, getting away from the sounds of the city has been refreshing. No lawn mowers, house parties, ambulances or airplanes.

I’ve been getting up way before the girls so I can whip up an espresso and sit outside on the deck in the early morning. I just sit in my Adirondack chair and witness the birds and the trees doing their thing. It’s the best way to start the day.

I was thinking of how I could instigate this routine in the city…but then I quickly erased the thought from my mind. I mean, as my neighbours drive noisily by in their less than environmentally friendly vehicles and construction goes on nearby…

…As the neighbourhood dogs responded in domino to the lone jogger out for his morning run, I think I’d be wishing I’d kept me and my café of the day indoors. No, this morning routine wouldn’t work in the city.

Sadly, this is exactly what we need to face the day. Peace, quiet and some time with our thoughts. If you’re not finding this me-time, you’re likely to go insane, especially now that the kids are out of school for the summer. (They’re more hyper than I thought they’d be!)

Everyone needs a sanity saver. Spill – what’s your secret weapon?

Figuring it out as I go,

- Lesli
