Paris Needs a Time Out!

Wha-at?? Paris is not going to serve jail time…

Just when you think justice will be served and our kids will see what happens in the real world this happens – Paris Hilton is NOT going to jail. What the heck?

Usually I leave the star gazing to my fellow blogger, Dexie, but I had to touch on this very sensitive subject. The initial charge was a DUI (Drinking Under the Influence), as with most DUIs, Paris was let off easy - a small fine (when you consider the risk she was causing to the people around her as she was driving), probation and alcohol education classes.

Then she was stopped again (for speeding) by police and was eventually charged for driving on a suspended license. Yada, yada, yada, she got a jail sentence of 45 days, which was then dropped to 21 days (estimated time for good behaviour) and now has been dropped to 20 days house confinement.

My thoughts are, if you are 26 years old and risk killing or maiming an innocent victim by driving under the influence then you should be spending some time in jail. Period. Of course, it’s not Paris’ fault, very few DUI charges are very stringent. But, twenty six years old, and a role model of sorts! Paris was part of an anti driving drunk campaign in Seventeen Magazine in October 2006. Check it out at 4webresults. This just makes me cringe.

Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes, but to keep on making mistakes and then not face the consequences? That, is intolerable. How do I explain this sort of situation to my kids? I’ve been telling them since they were preschoolers that driving after drinking alcohol is dangerous and irresponsible, and is definitely the road to pain and suffering. (For the victims/survivors/those left behind after a drunk driving accident and the driver.)
The bottom line is just don’t do it.

I ask, where are the consequences here? Paris needs a time out.

Figuring it out as I go,

Lesli

The most shocking thing about this, is the amount of people it shocks. Truly, most people are ignorant of the fact that money is power, and part of that power includes being above the law. The more money/power you have, the more you can get away with. Now imagine what the ultra-rich have been up to for the past 50 years... HINT: TOTALLY ENSLAVING THE REST OF US! (Examples of vehicles employed: taxes, gas prices, interest rate & economy ups & downs)
