Oprah and Obama: What Does Their Relationship Mean to You?

If you didn't know already, I'm Canadian.

But, when I heard that Oprah was supporting Obama in his race for the Presidency, I was hooked! This is like a reality show with one of my favourite characters! (Oprah) I started watching Oprah in junior high school. I don't watch her anymore, but I do admire her as a person. I am amazed that she has been able to grow her popularity over the years with barely a blip as far as bad publicity is concerned. I like how she is responsible for her behaviour and accepts personal responsibility for all that she does.

Oprah knows the power of her influence, so by voicing her full support of Obama, she knows that she is guaranteeing him a large number of votes based solely on her own popularity.

For those Canadians that need to be updated, read through an old Jeff Zeleny's blog at The Caucus (complete with the huge collection of comments...).

I can see how this Oprah and Obama union will singlehandedly (well, fourhandedly, really) change the world of politics.

Aready there was so much scrutiny back in May. Questions that were being thrown around on The Caucus comments included: Is Oprah supporting Obama because he's black? Why isn't Oprah supporting Hillary Clinton, being that she's a woman? Considering Oprah's strong, woman-power attitude...

There were also comments that point out that this has nothing to do with whether the candidate is black or a woman (Good point!). Someone suggested that perhaps Oprah wants to be considered for Vice-President, if Obama makes President.

Now that Oprah is on tour supporting Obama, everyone is analyzing her every word.

I loved this excerpt from Katharine Q. Seelye's blog:

Ms. Winfrey noted that some say Mr. Obama should “wait his turn.” But, she said, “I wouldn’t be where I am if I waited on the people who told me it couldn’t be.” The audience erupted with applause.

Writer's Strike, what Writer's Strike? With no new episodes of Brothers and Sisters to watch, I'm getting turned on to U.S. politics...!

Figuring it out as I go,

- Lesli
