Learn to Run 5K

Running.jpg

I went to the gym today. I feel great. But tomorrow may be a completely different story.

I'm taking up running. I figure it's an economical, do-it-anywhere, weight-bearing exercise that lets me set measurable goals. 'Cause I need pat-myself-on-the-back motivation.

Of course, I don't have any clue as to what I'm doing.

Three cheers for running guides. Yes, I've got Podrunner's inspiration. And now I've got a 5k plan from the Running Room's owner, John Stanton.

If you've done some walking, but you've never jogged before, you might feel a bit intimidated to get out there and start running. The goal of this 11-week beginner's walk/run plan will help you ease into the sport. Feel free to mix up treadmill workouts with outdoor runs. Stanton says, "You feel like you're in your 20s and reconnect with yourself and nature."

Stanton adds that many people get discouraged even before they start. "They fear people will laugh at them just starting out now later in life," But you can't judge a runner by shape, or age or size. Stanton says, “Turns out sometimes ‘Doug the Slug’ is fast, and ‘The Greyhound’ is slow.”

Check out the plan (and full article) here. Join the running revolution, folks! By the time the winter's over, you'll be running impressive distances in the warm sunshine....
