It's Time to Come Clean with Your Laundry (Best of 2007)

Do you have an efficient laundry routine in your house? I mean, am I the only mom that has dirty laundry in every room of the house; clean laundry sitting, waiting to be folded in baskets; and washed, wet laundry that has stayed in the washing machine one day too long? Why have I never gotten the hang of doing laundry?

Personally, I get a bit of a boost when I load the washing machine, put in the soap and close the lid. It's like I'm really doing something. When really I've done nothing but guaranteed myself work for later on when I have to dry and fold the clothes.

So, the moment of truth comes - the washing machine is finished, time to transfer the items to the dryer. It's usually a toss up whether the dryer will be empty or not in my house. If it's empty. I can fulfill the laundry transfer and add the Bounce sheet, but if it has clothes in it, I find myself at odds. Should I just jam all of the dry clothes into a laundry basket to fold later, or should I fold them now? Who am I fooling? I always put off folding clean laundry. (Just ask my kids who look like ragamuffins in their wrinkled jammies and dresses...)

Why do I put off folding laundry? Did I experience a laundry related trauma when I was young? Am I rebelling against the monotony of the task? Or am I just plain lazy?! (Honestly, no one needs to answer, my questions are rhetorical...)

Figuring it out as I go,

Lesli
