Happy Hosting: Keeping It Simple (Pt. 2)

feature_host.jpg

Since I'm currently in hosting-obsession mode, I thought I'd share with you some great tips I came across for frazzle-free entertaining. I'm good at the frazzle. So stress-free party prep is incredibly attractive to me.

1. Make room for more "cooks in the kitchen".

Let people bring food! You save time and money, and they get the chance to dazzle you with their signature appetizer/dessert. It's win-win. But you win the most.

2. Two heads are better than one.

Co-host the party. Or if you're planning it solo, feel free to recruit a friend for setup earlier in the day. I know I love feeling useful and helping friends with their events. So I should probably remember that they'd love to contribute similarly. It's also great to have that extra level head keeping you sane in the kitchen.

3. Learn how you work, then create your own rules.

Even though you've read the books, recipes and Websites (like this one), make sure you know how you work. What's your prep style? Don't expect perfection and don't put unrealistic expectations on yourself. Give yourself more time than your probably need, but refuse to fuss if you can't get it all done. Enjoy the party.

And happy hosting.
