While visiting my inlaws for a week earlier this month I witnessed somewhat of a sugarfest. Isn't it funny how grandparents just want to feed your kids (because we, as parents, are starving them, I guess!!!)
While staying with my beloved in-laws (and I do love and appreciate them greatly!), each day, after dinner (thank goodness!), my kids were offered (and ate!) a minimum of three desserts. None of it was wildly unreasonable - jello, banana cake, ice cream - but, more than we have at home.
When grandma would ask if they wanted more dessert my DDs would look to me, and I would say, "You decide." Of course, they usually chose more dessert. (What sane 7 and 10 year old wouldn't???)
I figured as long as they ate their main meal I was okay with this temporary sugar explosion. Not to mention the fact that they went swimming, played in the sprinkler and played tag every day. They needed the extra energy.
They may as well indulge now. Once they grow up it'll be a thing of the past, well, unless they are still running through the sprinkler and playing tag at 30 years old...
Figuring it out as I go,
- Lesli
