Eco-Friendly Party Hosting

With the holiday today (for my American friends) and this past Tuesday (for us Canadians), summer soirées are certainly on many of our minds. Fortunately, an evening of fun, food and friends doesn't have to environmentally painful. Try to keep the earth in mind as you plan your festivities this season. Eco-friendly doesn't have to mean expensive or stress-inducing. Do it for future generations. Actually, do it for this generation.

(I often challenge people, only half-kidding, with "You're making Al Gore cry"....)

Elizabeth Rogers, the co-author of The Green Book, recently gave CasaSugar some great tips on being an eco-friendly hostess with the mostess. Read them in their entirety here.

Some of her tips:

Pick up vintage glass-wear and plates at swap meets instead of using paper or Styrofoam dinner-wear. Using dishes that already exist is probably the easiest way to invoke zero harm on this lovely planet of ours.

Same goes with vintage tablecloths and napkins.

Decorate with potted plants instead of cut flowers.

Soy candles in Mason jars. Better for the air, the farmers and the electricity bill.

Earth-friendly partying is the new frontier. Happy July 4th.
