Balancing our careers and family often makes heathy eating challenging, doesn't it? That's especially true if you're a shift worker like 3 in 10 Canadians. They can be well acquainted with vending machines and fast food chains.
I just discovered an amazing website about nutrition and healthy eating for shift workers and more - EatRight Ontario. The website offers an excellent "Ask A Dietitian" service that directly links you to registered dietitians who will answer your questions and provide helpful information. It also has an extensive library of resources to answer nutrition and healthy eating queries. Popular topics include Active Living/Physical Activity, Digestive Health, Disease Prevention & Health Conditions, Healthy Eating, Lifestages, Vitamins and Minerals, Healthy Weights and Core Nutrients.
For shift workers, the website gives these excellent nutrition tips:
Brown-bag it.
Go for balance.
Avoid high-fat, fried or sugary foods.
Watch your portions.
Stay hydrated.
Eat meals according to time of day, not your shift.
Have a late night pick-up.
Cut down on caffeine.
Have a light snack before bed.
Stay active.
Maintain a healthy body weight.
For more tips, check out EatRight Ontario.
