Every day, we're doing our best to prepare and eat healthful foods.
One excellent grocery shopping tool we've found is Health Check, the Heart and Stroke Foundation's not-for-profit information program. Food products and menu items in the program have a Health Check symbol. The symbols help you choose foods in grocery stores that can be part of a healthy diet.
Registered dietitians and a technical advisory committee of independent nutrition experts develop the nutrient standards, based on the latest science. Each product is evaluated based on total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, fibre, sodium, calcium, sugar, vitamins and minerals.
Eating out and eating out healthful continues to be a challenge. Now Health Check is available at select Canadian restaurants. When you're eating out, if you see the Health Check symbol next to a menu item, it means the item has been evaluated and will help you eat well.
Download here a Heart & Stroke Shopping List which has nutrition labels and healthy eating tips.
Check out the Health Check website.
