Drugs and Alcohol Pictures, Printed in a Yearbook

A yearbook is a big part of any graduating student. It's a way to commemorate the school and the students. How would you feel when you open your child's yearbook and you see pages after pages filled with pictures of students doing drugs, drinking alcohol and getting arrested? I could imagine you would react just like Karen Marshall did. The parent from Colorado was outraged when in page 13 of the yearbook, titled, "Drug Addiction", pictures of students smoking pot, smoking paraphernalias, alcohol and prescription pills were plastered all over it. To add insult to the injury, there were captions printed below the pictures in a deceptive way to somehow "hide" it. Then on page 33, there were pictures of kids getting arrested by the cops. Another page showed a picture of 3 female students holding a Minors In Possession certificate for being arrested with the message that she wished she never told the cops the truth when their party was busted. There are other pages which glorify students smoking marijuanas using pipes and bongs.

The Teacher who was in-charge of handling the Yearbook production has since issued an apology for her poor judgement. The school has also issued a statement saying they are investigating this "controversy". They want to hear all the sides, I guess.

There is an obvious question here that any same human being should be asking. How in the world did this Teacher let those pictures be printed? Is she out of her mind? One could argue that maybe the students were trying to educate other young kids the repercussions of using drugs, drinking alcohol and getting arrested. Well, maybe. But is a highschool yearbook a good forum for it? After reading the captions that were stratigically put underneath the pictures, hey, you can't blame the parents for feeling outraged.
