Do Second Born Children Bathe Enough?

I was having a conversation with my two daughters (ages 7 & 10) the other morning before school.

I was reminiscing with them about when they were babies. I was telling them how when my older daughter was 18 months old we went camping and I made sure she had a bath every night. We were camping with my mom and dad at the time in their trailer. My mom had a big bucket and that's what I used to give my oldest a bath in. She had to stand up because there wasn't enough room to sit down.

The girls laughed at the thought of having a bath standing up. Not to leave out my younger daughter, I told her that she went camping as a baby too.

"But," I said, "You didn't have a bath every night."

My daughter asked, "Why?"

I tried to explain by saying, "Usually by the time you have your second child, as a parent you're more relaxed and well, the second child just doesn't get.."

"Baths?" my younger daughter questioned, finishing my sentence.

I had to laugh. Yep, baths for one thing. The second (or third, or fourth) child generally doesn't get parents that are overprotective and nervous.

...and they typically don't get parents that feel the need to bathe them every day.

So, I would surmise that second children, although a little on the dirty side, have parents that are alot more laid back and have a bit more flexibility in their routine.

Is that how it is in your family?

Figuring it out as I go,

- Lesli
