Crawling Stages : Tips for Safety

Here are before and after pictures of the state my house since my daughter started crawling. NOTE: I've moved that empty shelf somewhere else she can't get into :).

The last time I did the baby proofing thing was 8 years ago so I needed a refresher. Here's a lit of safety tips from the Experts at BabyCenter.com:

Get low. Observe your home from your baby's vantage point, crouched near to the ground on your hands and knees.

Look for dangling dangers. Move extension cords and other electric cords up and out of reach, or simply unplug items rarely used. Install covers on electrical outlets that can be easily reached by a baby. Remove long tablecloths.

Remove movables. Elevate fragile or heavy knickknacks to higher ground for awhile.

Install gates. If you have any stairs within easy access, it's advisable to cordon them off with child safety gates.

Hide away poisons and other hazards. These include household cleansers, nutritional supplements, medications, cleaning fluids, and knives and other sharp objects.

Lock 'em up. Add babyproof latches to cabinets and drawers containing items that are sharp or otherwise hazardous.

Prevent drowning. If you have a pool, be sure it's totally inaccessible to a crawler. Never leave buckets of mop-water or other liquids standing around — your baby could tip in headfirst and be unable to get back out.

Christmas this year is going to an adventure that's for sure. Ironically, I just unpacked those knick knacks from our recent move. Now they're back into the box. Hey, safety first right? :)
