Celebrate Your Pets

In our house we celebrate all sorts of special occasions - birthdays, anniversaries, special awards through school, accomplishments like learning to ride a two wheeler or getting the hang of monkey bars...and, of course, we celebrate our Golden Retriever's birthday each year.

This year our big yellow dog turned 12 years old. He's not as golden as he was in his younger days. There's more white hairs on his face then ever before. But, he's still doing really good healthwise - no major issues, no chronic arthritis.

I think the girls keep him young. They dress him up and include him in their tea parties. He loves camping with us and following us across rivers and into the bushes. (Although this year he spent alot of time snoozing on the riverbank on our annual camping trip to B.C.)

He's still such a puppy, frolicking and running with the kids. So, really it's quite appropriate for him to have a 'real' birthday celebration complete with a dog-style treat to splurge on. The kids have a great time preparing his treats in a birthday style and getting him to sit still as we sing Happy Birthday to him. Of course, he just loves all the attention.

By the way, he's a big Clifford fan...

Figuring it out as I go,

- Lesli
