British Teacher Charged and Arrested In Sudan For a Bear Named "Mohammed"

gillian.gibbons.jpgGillian Gibson, a British teacher in Sudan is arrested and facing charges for insulting and inciting hatred towards the Muslim religion. How? By letting the children in her class name a teddy bear "Mohammed". Under Sudan's Law, Gillian's "offense" is punishable by 40 lashes and a jail term for a year or a fine.

No offense to anyone in the Muslim religion but isn't this a little over the top? A lot of people name their children Jesus or Mary. Even Gwyneth Paltrow named her son Moses. You don't see the Catholic religion complaining about it. I'll give Sudan the benefit of the doubt by saying maybe the teacher should've respected their law, if she knew about it that is. To her defense, she said the children picked the name. So why turn something innocent into this? Assuming of course that Gillian didn't let the kids in her class do it with any malicious intent.

Peace people, Peace!
