Book Review: When To Walk by Rebecca Growers

I recently read this Harper Colllins published book and I have to say it took me a long time to get through it, and it only has 235 pages!

The book showed early promise of an interesting storyline. At only page two, the main character's husband tells her their marriage is over. This sets up a few chapters of the main character, Ramble, replaying the words that her husband, Con, used to split up with her.

After Chapter 4, I had the hardest time grasping the story. Whether it was because the book had very British characters, or because I just didn't connect with Ramble, I didn't feel the story was playing out smoothly for me. I kept reading in search of the place that would hook me back into the story, but I never did find it.

Of course, this is my humble opinion. The author Rebecca Growers has recently been longlisted for the Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction for When to Walk.

Happy Reading,

- Lesli
