Several girlfriends have been lately talking about Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. The campaign began with Ralph Lauren in 1994. In memory of his late friend Nina Hyde, he launched the target t-shirts at New York Fashion Week. Since then, Fashion Targets Breast Cancer "has become the global fashion community's single, most successful response to breast cancer, raising more than $40,000,000 in more than 10 countries."
In Canada, Rethink Breast Cancer is the only breast cancer organization to hold the Canadian rights. It has raised $1,300,000 for Rethink's research, awareness and support programs.
"People get so excited about the T-shirt, I start getting calls about next year's colour and selection before the current campaign is completed," says Alison Gordon, Rethink cofounder. "They've become collector's items and supporters are chomping at the bit to be the first to debut the newest one."
This year, Rethink is challenging Canadians to become a champion of the cause. My friends and others will motivate co-workers to buy 2008 target-wear and "wear it in a unified show of support for the cause on
Fashion Targets Friday, October 24/08."
