Balancing Work and Life

Regardless if you work outside the home, work at home or are a stay at home mom (which is still a job!), it is necessary to find a balance between work and life. On my writing blog, I was tagged for a meme that posed questions on how I balance work and life. I wanted to share my answers:

How do you achieve balance in your life?
I take care of myself in order to have the mental and physical energy to take care of my family and work. If I am not functioning 100% - balance is hard to attain.

What is your biggest challenge in balancing your life?
Making sure outside sources do not come between me and the important things in my life. Learning to say no.

What are your priorities?
My children, my husband, my family, and myself. My good friends are considered a part of my family. In everything I do (including writing), I make sure that one of these groups benefits - otherwise, why am I doing it?

Have your priorities changed over time and why?
Yes! From being single, to married, to being focused on my career, to becoming a mom. With each momumental change in my life my priorites have shifted or evolved. At different points in life there are different focuses and I need to make the most of them while I can. I have a finite amount of time to be the world to my children before they want to explore the world without me. I am going to give them my all while I have the chance.

What advice can you share to help all of us balance our own lives?
Be consciously aware of your priorites so you can plan your actions towards meeting them. Be aware that the balance is never perfect - just do your best and realize your best is good enough.

If you have not seen this meme yet, consider yourself tagged. Answer these questions on your own blog and let us know in the comments or go ahead and post your answers in the comment section. I look forward to reading your answers.
