Are You a Helicopter Parent?

It's one thing to be concerned for our kids and want to protect them, but when we start going overboard we turn into Helicopter Parents. Helicopter Parents continually hover and protect their children from difficulties and challenges. Often interfering with their child's natural learning experiences and stages of life.

Read the following list to see if you are a Helicopter Parent:

1.You approach the kid in the sandbox that won’t share the shovel with your kid.
2.You ask the clown for a balloon for your child even though your kid is scared out of his mind over clowns…and balloons.
3.You introduce your child to a kid at the park, instead of letting him warm up and make friends on his own.
4.You confront your child’s teacher about your child’s recent Social Studies test, wondering why your child didn’t get more marks on the 15 point essay question.
5.You won’t let your kid do the monkey bars in case they fall and get hurt.

Overprotective and meddling that's what a helicopter parent is...I'm sure we all fall into the Helicopter category once in awhile! Read here to get Laurie Yarnell's opinion on Helicopter Parenting from Embedded in the Burbs.

Figuring it out as I go,

- Lesli
