Another year gone! My youngest son turns one year old tomorrow. One of the phenomenons of parenthood is the passage of time. And it seems that time gathers speed as you have more children. I can remember the big milestones that my sons have achieved but the day-to-day happenings are a blur. I keep a family blog that helps me to remember the little joys and wonders of what it means to be a mommy so I can go back and reminisce - sometimes it is like reading about someone else's life.
There will not be a big bash to celebrate. Tomorrow is going to be a quiet observance of the past year and we are going to have a small family celebration on the weekend. I do have a smidge of mommy guilt because we went all out when our first son turned one. I went gourmet and handmade an Elmo cake (including icing from scratch), invited over four 1 year olds (what was I thinking!?) and stressed the entire time about everyone having a good time.
I've now learned to hold off on high-expectations for children's celebrations, and just go with the flow. With experience also comes the knowledge that there are some situations that you just don't have to put yourself in. Turning one is a big event, but only for mommy and daddy and we are the ones who are going to celebrate with our little guys. As he gets older and has friends then the birthday parties can begin.

Not having a huge celebration is a good idea. Coz seriously, they won't remember it. Happy Birthday to your baby. Ahh, they do grow up too fast.
