2 Woman Plus 1 Man Equals Embryos

3d_model_DNA_web1.jpg

Well, they've done it. The British scientists were able create human embryos using the DNA of 2 women and 1 man. The researchers proceeded on this experiment hoping to one day produce disease-free embryos. Concerns about producing genetically modified babies have been raised but the scientists behind are claiming that babies are still primarily from 1 woman and 1 man.

So far, 10 such embryos have been created, though they have not been allowed to develop for more than five days. Chinnery hoped that after further experiments in the next few years the process might be available to parents undergoing in-vitro fertilization.

"If successful, this research could give families who might otherwise have a bleak future a chance to avoid some very grave diseases," said Francoise Shenfield, a fertility expert with the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology. Shenfield was not connected to the Newcastle University research.More Here.

Sometimes Science scares me. Hmm, scratch that. Sometimes, people behind Science scare me. I could understand the steps being taken to benefit in-vitro fertilization in the future but this I'm afraid could also result into major disasters if not handled properly with all the protocol it needs. Whatever they may be.
